Ribeira d'Ilhas: Surfing Paradise in Ericeira Guide
Welcome to Ribeira d'Ilhas Beach, a world-renowned surfing destination and a jewel of Ericeira's coastline. This stunning beach boasts consistent waves, making it a haven for surfers of all skill levels. Even if you're not a surfer, the beach's natural beauty, dramatic cliffs, and vibrant atmosphere make it a must-visit spot. Relax on the sand, soak up the sun, and watch the surfers carve through the waves. While Ribeira d'Ilhas doesn't have a long, complex history like some historical sites, its significance lies in its more recent role as a pivotal location in the development of surfing in Portugal. It was one of the first beaches in the country to gain international recognition for its surf, contributing significantly to Ericeira's designation as a World Surfing Reserve. The beach has hosted numerous surfing competitions, solidifying its place in surfing history. Ribeira d'Ilhas offers a variety of activities. Surfing is, of course, the main draw, with several surf schools offering lessons and rentals. You can also enjoy swimming, sunbathing, stand-up paddleboarding, or simply relaxing on the beach. Several restaurants and cafes line the beach, offering stunning ocean views and delicious food. Try the fresh seafood, a staple of the Ericeira region. Don't miss the opportunity to sample local dishes like *arroz de marisco* (seafood rice) or grilled fish.
